An brief overview on how you can invest with SpaceX

Space Exploration Technologies Corp., also known as SpaceX, is a company that focuses on space exploration and development. The company was founded by Elon Musk in 2002, and has a primary goal of manufacturing aerospace transportation and communication devices or equipment. It was created with a vision of possibly colonizing Mars, and develop space ships that can be used for transportation.

It had remarkable success in terms of the development as they’ve already got a second contract from NASA last 2012 to help shuttle crewmembers of the International Space Station back to Earth and vice versa. However, the company is privately owned so no matter how interested the investors are, actual ownership with the company is pretty much not possible at the moment. Very few selected individuals were given the chance to acquire stakes for the direct ownership of the company until there will be a public offering in the future.

While this seems to be the case, there are still indirect options available for anyone interested in investing with SpaceX, especially now that the company is getting more exposed to the public and that its valuation rocketed to $74 billion. One option is purchase Google stocks. Google invested $900 million to SpaceX on a joint venture with Fidelity, a funding company based on Boston that offers financial services.

There’s no record of either Google or Fidelity selling the SpaceX stakes so by purchasing Google stocks, one will have an indirect investment to SpaceX along with its capital growth. The only downside is that while company’s valuation continues to rise, the shares of Google’s investment remain the same, and there’s also the possibility of them selling the said stocks.

Another option is to invest in Bailie Gifford trusts which trades at London stock exchange. They have two companies that have exposure to SpaceX, namely Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust (SMT) and the Bailie Glifford US Growth Trust Investment trust (USA). The SMT stocks have 0.8% exposure to SpaceX while the USA stocks are got a 1.6% exposure.

While indirect investments like these options have their own ups and downs, it is still best to directly have a stake to the said company, but this option will only be available if SpaceX goes public.
